Broadstone was redesigned by Harry Colt in 1920 and plays much as he left it. The great golf writer Bernard Darwin called it the “Gleneagles of the South”, and it is easy to see why.
After the opening holes climb through heather, pine, gorse and rhododendrons, the course opens out to magnificent views across the Dorset countryside, and accurate driving becomes essential. The 7th is the toughest hole, usually needing a second shot of around 200 yards, and the run towards the 15th is as spectacular as it is challenging. All four par 3s are excellent, with the 8th the pick of them.
Broadstone is part of our Dorset Heathland Golf Tour, alongside Ferndown, Parkstone, Remedy Oak and the Isle of Purbeck.
Course: 18-hole heathland. Address: Higher Blandford Road, Broadstone, Dorset BH18 8DQ
