Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club

Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club has played over the links at Embleton, on the Northumberland coast, since 1900, when the first nine holes were laid out in the shadow of the 14th-century castle ruins. James Braid extended and refined the layout in the early 1920s into the 18 holes that survive today.

The links run along Embleton Bay within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the ruined castle visible from much of the course. Gorse, sea winds, pot bunkers and contoured greens make the most of the natural dunes, and free-draining turf keeps the course playable for most of the year.

Dunstanburgh features on our Northumberland Golf Coast tour.

Course: 18-hole links. Address: Embleton, Alnwick NE66 3XQ
