Matfen Hall is Northumberland’s first and only five-star country estate, and it has just completed a £50 million renovation.
Its new 18-hole championship course, The Douglas, opened in June 2026, with nine green complexes redesigned by James Edwards. It is complemented by the nine-hole Dewlaw course, a par-3 course and new practice facilities, making Matfen a superb base for golf in the North East.
Matfen Hall features on our Newcastle City Tour.
Courses: 18-hole championship course plus nine-hole and par-3 courses. Address: Matfen, Northumberland NE20 0RH
