Moortown Golf Club

Moortown is an Alister MacKenzie classic, laid out on the Yorkshire moorland on the north side of Leeds. It famously hosted the Ryder Cup and is still rated among the best courses in the country: one of the must-plays of English golf.

The wide fairways look inviting, but miss them and gorse and heather wait to punish any loose shot. True to MacKenzie’s style, the course is very well bunkered, especially around the greens. His signature hole, the par-3 10th known as Gibraltar, has a green perched on a rocky plateau and is as picturesque as it is testing.

Moortown sits right next door to Alwoodley, another MacKenzie gem, so the two make a perfect pairing on a Leeds golf trip.

Course: 18-hole moorland. Address: Harrogate Road, Alwoodley, Leeds LS17 7DB
